CSPP-Irvine MFT doctoral students, Lucy Her and Metra Salem were awarded the AAMFT SAMHSA Minority Fellowship Award of $25,000 per year. This award is only available to doctoral students from COAMFTE accredited programs and is designed to increase the number of culturally competent therapists who teach, administer, research, and provide mental health and substance abuse services to underserved minority populations in the public and private non-profit sectors. Alliant's Office of Disability Services Announces Partnership with Bookshare.org and Requests Book Donations
Alliant's Office of Disability Services has partnered with Bookshare.org to address the scarcity of psychology books available in alternative formats to university students and professionals with print-based disabilities. The Office of Disability Services plans to make at least 100 psychology, education and business books available for people with disabilities over the next year with the online service Bookshare.org. Virginia Tech shooter Cho Seung-Hui – a brooding Korean American student who spoke in whispers and never removed his sunglasses – is an extreme example of a common problem. In part because cultural barriers make Asian Americans less likely to seek help for emotional problems than whites, mental health care often fails to reach them says a panel of experts at the California School of Professional Psychology.
