Intern Teaching Program in Special Education: San Francisco and Other Areas as Needed
|
Admission to Alliant
- Possess a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
- Have an overall grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for undergraduate coursework or a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for master's level work
- Complete the university’s written application forms with requisite fee.
- Submit two (2) letters of recommendation addressing competency in and capacity to teach in California schools and to excel in graduate level academic studies.
- Professional Written Statement addressing the candidate’s Philosophy of Education, the candidate’s activities toward advancing that philosophy as well as the candidate’s educational background, knowledge, skills and experiences that would classify the candidate as a “highly qualified teacher.”

Alliant offers an exceptional Intern Program for the special education teacher. This CCTC-approved Education Specialists for the mild to moderately disabled student program culminates in the recommendation for:
-
the Preliminary / Level I Education Specialists (Mild / Moderate Disabilities) Credential,
-
the Preliminary Teaching Credential for Multiple Subjects, and
-
the Master of Arts in Education (MAE) degree.
The three-semester / 30 unit total program consists of:
-
18 units of coursework focusing on the assessment, planning, instruction and advancement of the mild to moderately disabled student in an environment of collaboration and achievement as well as instructional and assessment strategies for the multiple subject classroom;

eight units of strategic seminars within a professional learning community cohort model coupled with an individual mentor / coach; and
-
four units of research methodology and targeted masters-level research.
The Program incorporates expertise from California's best practitioners as well as the university's research faculty. The Alliant education specialists is prepared to be a leader in the practice of meeting the needs of and advancing the special needs students in California.
